Client Files: Living & Dining Mini Design Consult

I recently had the pleasure of working with a new client, whom we will call D, on her living and dining room in Chicago. D and her family have a newly built home that they are trying to take to the next level after living in it for a while. It takes time! She already had some really great foundation pieces and was just looking for some ideas on how to tie the front living room and rear dining room together via inspiration, purchases or potential DIY's. Enter the Unpatterned Mini Design Consult!

We had a short meeting onsite to get D's perspective and wish list and brainstorm recommendations. Then I went back to the studio, mulled things over, and sent D a mini Pinterest mood board as well as a pdf summary of the suggestions. Here's a snapshot of the experience. This is some of what D was already working with:

The sofa is so good and those vintage chairs (she has a pair) KILL me with their deliciousness. So here's a smattering of ideas and inspiration as she shops or creates her next project to complete the rooms:

View the full Pinterest board here. In brief, I recommended for the living room she move the pair of vintage chairs to their own seating area with a small side table (1), add in the rattan chair with the sofa (4) and maybe a pouf (2). Tie the rug into the seating with just a few pillows that match the rug but don't compete (3).  In the dining room, on the wallpapered wall, she should replace her existing buffet (not pictured) with something more streamlined that fits in the space like (5), maybe flank it with a bar cart (6) and make or buy a large scale, colorful abstract piece of art to go near the dining table. The colors should tie back into the other room plus a few pops of new ones (8). There's a lot more to it, but I can't give it all away in this blog!
